Chapter 18
Congratulations!
Upgrade to the plus plan to play the fully voiced version of this lesson!
Upgrade to Plus PlanThe story centers on Mike, a university student from America who is studying abroad in Japan. He becomes friends with his classmate, Ayaka, and learns about life in Japan through exploring different places and interacting with various people.
Mike’s story progresses with each lesson in chronological order. Each lesson focuses on several key phrases on a specific theme (e.g. getting to know someone, asking for directions, etc.) and comprises of two parts: a story section and a quiz section.
In the story section, Mike learns something new through interacting with other characters. A fully voiced option is available for the dialogue in each lesson, allowing you to hear how natural Japanese conversation sounds.
Once you finish the story section, you can experience the conversation again in the quiz section. The quiz section requires you to go through the conversation again and choose the correct responses in Mike’s place. Each quiz section has approximately three to five questions.
Upon starting the quiz, the same conversation from the story will begin. When you reach a question, three options will appear on the screen. Tap the option that best suits the situation.
If the option you choose is correct, the button will turn green. If your answer is incorrect, the button will turn red. Don’t worry if you get something wrong—you can go through each lesson as many times you like. Tap Next after answering each question to move the conversation forward.
At the end of each lesson, you will receive a star rating that gives you an idea on how you did in the quiz. Feel free to use this score to keep track of your learning progress!
In addition to the story and quiz sections, extra features are available to help you learn in each lesson:
English translations
In the story section, an English translation of the dialogue will be available under the Japanese in a different color. This will help you understand what the characters are saying and pick up some new Japanese words.
Kanji readings
All new kanji characters in the dialogue are underlined. If you don’t know how to read something, hover over the underlined kanji to see its reading. The readings will be displayed in hiragana.
Tips & fun facts
Sometimes, there will be a Tip button available on the right side of the dialogue box. Tap on the button to see some extra explanations on cultural aspects or how some phrases are used in conversation.
Make full use of all the features available in the lessons and have fun!
